Q: Seems to me that the new .me domains can be the next big domain because of it's personal touch. I'm thinking of starting a business and thinking of using the .me domain instead of .com, .net, etc... mainly because all of the names that I wanted are already taken on those domains.
A: It depends. For important words or very short phrases, the answer may be yes. For most words and phrases, I would guess not. So far, other top level domains (TLDs) like .biz, .us, and .info have not generally proved too popular with real companies (spam sites love them). The governing body that issues TLDs has also announced tentative plans to start allowing new TLDs to anyone with the money to handle them. Like anything, supply and demand will control. As to your own business, however, whether the .me domains will be "big" should not be terribly relevant. If you can pick a memorable domain that works for your business (buy.me or im.me or contact.me, etc...) and have a good marketing plan, the general state of .me domains is irrelevant.
